If you’ve been meaning to try boxing but weren’t sure where a total beginner could start, this is it. Our beginner boxing classes at Edson Breedy Athletics in Saint Joseph assume you’ve never thrown a punch. We teach technique first, then build the strength and conditioning on top of it.

Built for people who’ve never boxed
Walking into a boxing gym for the first time is intimidating. We’ve designed our beginner classes to remove that. You’ll start with footwork, stance, and the basic punches, drilled at a pace you can actually follow. Once your movement is correct, power comes naturally.
There’s no sparring thrown at you on day one and no assumption that you’re already fit. You just need to start.

- Beginner Boxing (16 and over): Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays 6:30–8:00pm
Classes run in our ring and on the bags with real coaching, not a video on a screen. Group sizes stay manageable so you get corrections while you learn.
What boxing does for you
Beyond the fitness, boxing trains focus and composure. Every session asks you to stay calm and think while your heart rate is up, which is a skill that carries straight into the rest of your life. It’s also a genuinely effective way to manage anxiety and everyday stress.
